I know you're joking but it's amazing people think that agents will let their players go to places on 'pay as you play deals'. Makes no sense for anyone other than the club.

Yep. I wonder who the last 'pay-as-you-play' player was in the top flight? If there has even been one?
Or even when he signed for Stoke City.

Ledley King AFAIK for the last two years of his career was pay as play or at least majority of his earnings were.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 2:31 pmYep. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that we disagreed, it sounded as though we felt the same way and I just wanted to add to your point.CIH wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 2:53 pmRemember Colo wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 1:56 pm
There are enough football players on earth who haven't battled injury problems like this for the past 3 years, so I don't know why you'd want to be the club taking the risk on him. There are other teams who need to take those risks to get players with upside, but we really shouldn't have to.
Yeah I'm advocating against signing him, would've been a good buy a few years ago, but too much a risk now.

Great. Let's bring Beckham and Delap in pay as you kick/throw in case we get any last minute set pieces.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 5:37 pmLedley King AFAIK for the last two years of his career was pay as play or at least majority of his earnings were.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 2:31 pm

It's a shame because I think our first season back up he would've been a great addition. We definitely need to bring someone of that ilk in, regardless of Hayden's future.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 6:20 pmSorry, I didn't mean to imply that we disagreed, it sounded as though we felt the same way and I just wanted to add to your point.

If his wages weren't an issue, and also the overhanging age issue with the current transfer policy, Drinkwater wouldn't be a bad signing. Although similarly to McCarthy, hasn't played much football for a while.

Is this even true anymore?
Dubravka - 30
Fernández - 30
Ki - 30
Rondon (L) - 29
Out of our most recent signings only Kenedy(L), Almirón and Barreca (L) fell under 26 yrs old with Muto and Schar both 26.
I'd say this policy ended when Carr left and seems to be a lazy excuse from the press for why we don't/won't sign certain players these days.

I think it’s true in that we may spend low amounts on older players, but unlikely to go out and spend £15m on a 29 year old even tho they can easily play for another 5 seasons. The ones you listed were all free / loan / cheap.

I think it's more in terms because of Lejune's long term injury. Even with his age, for 6m he was at worst a decent addition.Tsi wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 10:29 amIsn't that the case with all our signingslassassinblanc wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 7:07 am

Sry forgot to put at the end as I wasn't being serious
Anyway here's a good joke doing the rounds
According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel is ‘in talks’ with Newcastle over a potential summer move to St James’ Park.

Yeah I saw that, there was an accompanying picture where he has hair. Well weird. But yeah, I think signing a 36 year old on presumably large wages is a no go

Skrtel is crap now anyway. It's like when we always got linked with Torres just becasue Rafa was in charge. And Babel, and Xabi Alonso a few years ago. And Reina.

And this isn't even the first time we've been linked with him. Pretty sure this is the third window in a row. Often I'd say when there's smoke there's fire, but not when it comes to him.
Re: NUFC Minor/Untrusted Transfer Rumours (Summer 2019)
You had me going there, I was going to suggest definitely signing him just to have a player older than me in the squad, but he's only 34.
Daryl Murphy was the last Newcastle player to not be younger than me, and I reckon that will remain the case...

If Pele isn't dead, can we sign him. Then a few of us older members are included.Colback's Orange Tufts wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 5:02 pmThe campaign to sign claudio pizzaro and Kazuyoshi Miura starts here!
