I'd add, I've watched VAR in use in the MLS for a few years now, and sure, I haven't always agreed with some of the penalty calls, but overall I've appreciated its application, and I've never seen it used for enforcing that rule. Considering there are still leagues deciding if or how they want to implement it, this seems like a huge mistake that isn't keeping the spirit of the rule in mind.

Var = farce when used like it was last night. Indeed the good ladies of Ecosse have been erm well and truly shafted by Var in the three games they have played.
That said it’s no excuse for letting go of a three goal lead with 16 mins left. Dafties

I think a problem with VAR is it removes all room for a judgement call. Rules have to be stuck to to the letter of the law, otherwise there is ambiguity in what is or isn't allowed. The rules need to change to reflect that.

This is the big thing for me. Penalties are hard enough for goalkeepers without them now having to think about tiny "false starts" which are inevitable in this age of stuttery run ups. What's worse is this isn't something that should need VAR at all, it's a dead ball and a linesman is perfectly placed to decide if the keeper is taking the piss.

Exactly. It's just not a reasonable application of the technology.

No-one in France I spoke to was even aware that the Womens World Cup was on or even being played in France.

They did however know an awful lot about heavy metal music.

Other countries probably aren’t making as big a deal of it as the BBC are it sounds like.

How dare the BBC make a big deal of the football tournament they've paid for rights to.

Mine wasn’t a sarcastic comment about them promoting women’s football.

Cameroon are proper shithouses. Not sure how they've still got 11 on the pitch, we've had a player elbowed and a player spat on.

I can't believe the Camerton players not kicking off again. The goal was waay onside. Unless they don't know about the clause about the other player not being active. WTF

Re: VAR

I would think the English would be in favor of VAR since Maradona and The Hand of God. ;)
