Close these potential deals for a new CDM and wing back and I'll be feeling oddly pretty good going into the season.

The Palace comments are particularly baffling. With or without Zaha they're not getting mid table, and without him they're in a world of trouble.

I didn't actually think I could dislike him any more but hey, life is full of surprises. For the first time this pre season I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic (that we won't go down) and one, maybe two more signings would cement that even more.

Rafa did a fantastic job in convincing fans and pundits that without him we would fall into the footballing abyss never to be seen again. Don't get me wrong he did a fantastic job but he isnt the only person that could have got us promoted or kept us in the premier League, we have been competitive on the pitch before him and we will compete on the pitch without him. To be honest the more we are written off based on Rafa leaving the more I want to see Bruce really kick on with us and prove everyone wrong.

People would have said the same about Ranieri before he took over Leicester, same about Hodgson and Warnock, hell Cardiff would still be in the PL if it wasn't for a string of horrible luck and wrong decisions, we don't know how Bruce will do with us until it's the final day of the season and we know where we have finished.

He is, but I think there are a lot of teams that haven't improved this summer, and it'll be nice to maybe actually try and take it to them, rather than setting up to avoid defeat.

Tbh I don't see us getting relegated

Sheffield Utd will finish last, Brighton haven't really improved on their squad, and I think they paid over the odds for majority of their signings.

Can't see Norwich doing much either. Villa may do a Fulham in regards to how many players they've brought in.

I'd say we'll surprise a few and finish similar to last season in mid-table
I'll Hazard a guess

Agreed on every word. Rafa's left us with one of the strongest defensive bases we've had in ages (if we play the back 5) but for me was far too negative for massive spells. With that still intact and the attacking options we've just gained (and I'm including Aarons in that if he can stay fit) I honestly feel like we'll do alright. Hell, he can hardly do worse than Rafa did pre Christmas in both his Premier League seasons before "miraculous" recoveries.

For all that Bruce's points record isn't great, didn't we work out that his average was survival? He's basically been at promoted and relegation threatened teams for his career, so I think it could be interesting to see what he can do with this squad.

Like I've said, I'm an optimist...

Pretty much what has been said by Don Sholeone and Colly about our defence.
I think we can finish around the 11th/12th mark.

This. Around 16th - 13th I see us finishing. We will be in a relegation scrap but we will have enough to put a run together and end the last couple of games comfortable and safe.

Anything higher than 15th and I'll be shocked.
