Is it just me that thinks it’s a waste of a position having 3 goalkeepers? I mean how often does the third choice get played? I think I’d rather have an extra option outfield and let the under-21 keeper sit on the bench for a few games if it came to it.

Longstaff wouldn't need to be registered as he is only 21.

That would mean a squad of 22. with 8 home grown

Meaning either we loan out or sell the others before 1 Sept or register at least 3 of them.

Murphy and Aarons aren't needed as we don't play wingers in Bruce's preffered formation of 3-5-2.

Going off preseason / who our better players are, that would leave first choice / cover in every position as follows:

GK: Dubravka (Darlow & Elliot)
CB: Schar (Fernandez)
CB: Lascelles (Clark)
CB: Lejune (Dummett)
RWB: Krafth (Manquillo)
CM: SLongstaff (MLongstaff)
CM: Hayden (Ki)
CM: Shelvey (Saviet)
LWB: Willems (Ritchie)
FWD: Joelinton (Muto)
FWD: Almiron (Maximin)

Then loan out Murphy and Aarons. Get rid of Yedlin, Lazaar, Colback, Atsu and Gayle.

That leaves a 23 man squad with only 21 needing to be registered (both Longstaffs are young).

Room for 4 more players. I'd say we still need another proper out and out CF as Joelinton is the only one. Maybe get rid of Saviet and bring in a new CM as well. Then we still have room for 3 more!

Obviously none of that will actually happen before the deadline tomorrow (maybe Carroll on a free when he's back from injury in September / October). So we'll probably just end up keeping 4 of the 5 I'd want to get rid of.

True but it's unlikely he's going to get ahead of Willems and Ritchie so probably best to let him go on loan as he needs and will be wanting first team football at this stage in his career.

This. I don't think Aarons will go.. Bruce fancies him too and I'll even say he's going to start against Arsenal as a LWB with Ritchie injured and Willims just gelling in. A fit and firing Aarons (who's still only 23 mind) is a good pacey and skillful option to have of the bench / back-up as he can cover LWB/RWB/RW/LW/SS/CF. Rather keep him than Atsu and Murphy if anything.. more naturally talented and gifted than both I'll say.

Honestly if Ritchie's out Sunday I'd be tempted to play Dummett there and bring Fernandez in. It's obviously pretty defensive, but against Arsenal I'd take it. We can front load the rest of the side to scare the s*** out of their woeful defense.

This. Couple that with the fact that if St Etienne is anything to go by Aarons can't defend which is a massive risk against a team like Arsenal.
