Match day thread - NUFC v MUFC
Manchester United (h)
Newcastle return to Gallowgate on Sunday when they face the Red Devils in a 4.30pm start, live on Sky Sports.
Tickets remain on public sale, with increasingly desperate efforts by the Magpies to hit the 50K mark seeing a rash of competitions to win them appearing.
It's also reported that discounted seats remain available to local organisations including universities - an unprecedented situation for this fixture.
The lowest attendance for this fixture since the capacity of SJP was raised above 50,000 in 2000 remains 49,025 for a midweek game in April 2011.
NUFC: Friday's press call saw Steve Bruce confirm that the only definite absentees from his squad were Isaac Hayden (suspended), Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune (injury).
Jonjo Shelvey is available earlier than anticipated following a hamstring injury while Allan Saint-Maximin has been declared fit to start.
Dwight Gayle has returned to training with the first team, having taken squad number 12 since his loan at West Bromwich Albion. His most recent game for Newcastle was against Chelsea at SJP in May 2018. He scored.
This will be the thirteenth occasion that Steve Bruce has managed the home side in a league or cup game against Manchester United and he's yet to win any of them.
The previous dozen came while he was in charge of Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, the mackems and Hull City - losing eight and drawing the other four.
Needless to say, he's not won at Old Trafford as a visiting manager either....
MUFC: Ahead of Sunday's trip to Tyneside, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side faced Dutch League side AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday.
That ended scoreless with Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba all absent. Adding to their woes, Jesse Lingard came on against AZ but limped off.
It remains to be seen whether any of them will return on Sunday.
Forward Mason Greenwood has featured in Manchester United's last three league and cup games. The 18 year-old netted on his last appearance at SJP - for the U23s back in April.
A 1-1 home draw with Arsenal in their last domestic outing confirmed that the Red Devils had made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season - collecting nine points from seven games.
Stats:
This will be the 49th meeting of the two clubs in the Premier League; Newcastle winning six times, drawing 14 and losing the other 28 so far.
Steve Bruce reaches the 400 game mark as a Premier League manager (W111, D111, L177). His win ratio of 27.8% is the worst of anyone who has managed at least 300 games in the competition.

Referee: Mike Dean (The Wirral). Never our favourite, but let's recall that he was in charge at Spurs back in August when we actually managed to win a game. He didn't penalise Jamaal Lascelles for downing Harry Kane in the box and VAR didn't overturn his decision.

Judging by both teams performances this season this could be one of the worst games of football in PL history.

I have Saint Maximin as my final first scorer on Betway's 4 to score, so once he bags me my fortune I'm confident we will go on to lose 1-4.
