You can legally score with your armpit or shoulder. You can't legally score with your arms or hands. Under the current rule you're offside if any part of your body that you can legally score with is offside.

Personally I think the rule should be change to the same as it is for a goal. To score the whole of the ball has to be over the whole of the line. Same applies when determining if the ball is out of play or not. So why not be consistent and have the same for offside?

The whole of the player should have to be offside for an offside decision to be made. It'll encourage teams to play on the shoulder more and as a result we'll see more chances / goals ultimately leading to more exciting games.

I'm not sure about that, you'd only end up with the same argument but on the back end of attacking players. From a VAR perspective the obvious solution to take account for the fact the tech is obviously not good enough is to make the lines thicker to build in some tolerance. If the attackers line overlaps the defenders at all it's onside.

Given that the law was brought in to prevent goal hanging, this nonsense "we think you're an inch off so it doesn't count" is utterly against the spirit of the law.

Surely u can’t score with your armpit as the ball would be touching your arm too?

That kind of depends on your definition of where the armpit starts, it's pretty much the side of your chest. Or in fact someone without an arm probably still has an armpit. Stupid wording from the Premier League really.

Didn't the offside rule used to be that there needs to be daylight between attacker and defender to be offside? That's probably the most clear cut way to do it.

Everton v Spurs is so poor. Literally nothing has happened, other than VAR rechecking a VAR decision...

That was horrific. The players reaction says it all, and the faces of the fans sat near it. Awful.

Oh yeah, I wasn’t meaning it was intentional by Son, just that the injury was horrific.

Aurier was more at fault than Son, in my opinion. Reckless and unnecessary.
There is no sin except stupidity.

Morbid curiosity almost led to me rewinding to watch the injury (since they didn't include it in replays), but I've seen enough leg/ankle breaks to not subject myself to that again. Hope for the best for him - it was a fluke thing that can unfortunately happen, but doesn't make it any less gruesome.

Yeah, I don’t get people who go hunting for videos of that kind of thing.

But Aurier wouldn't have caused an injury if it wasn't for the petty and cynical foul by Son.

Yeah, it starts with Son. Though it is the kind of foul that happens several times every match, it just ended in the bad luck of him sliding into Aurier. Terrible, terrible luck. <erk>

Yeah, think it was just really unfortunate. You’ve seen people walk away from worse tackles.
