FFP, basically in place to keep the old guard in power.

Hmm. It's huge news and could really shake things up. But they're going to the CAS and I can see it being reduced to 1 year if not overturned completely.

I think a one year ban still marks a turning point where big clubs are properly hit.

If we win tomorrow would be only four points off. Not going to happen but would make the end of the season interesting to say the least. Everton wolves man u and Sheffield will all be wanting that extra spot

Banned for dodgy sponsorship deals. UEFA should investigate our own "Deal" with SD, 12 years at £0 a season plus a cut of all Nufc merchandise is far worse than a owner pumping his own money into the Club to win trophies.
At the same time Spain' government helps Real Madrid & Barcelona out with handouts in the form of huge sponsorship deals

It does actually feel like Man City have been targeted, all your rich clubs have dodgy financing and sponsorship to get around FFP, if they went after all of them fair enough, but to me the whole thing seems a bit dodgy, if you go after man city you have to go after Barca, Real, PSG etc.

If the big boys all finished outside of the top 4 one season. UEFA would change the rules so they could still play in the champions league.
That idea of a league of just the top teams around Europe should happen. As long they were not allowed to walk back into the Premier League and have to start in League 2
When the fans all start getting sick of wasting money travelling around Europe for away games.
The Premier League would be fun for the teams left.

They've 100% been targeted and FFP is fundamentally flawed and favors the Old Guard, big teams with big fan bases and stadiums. They only way to catch up is to spend money, if you can't do that you end up with even more of a closed shop than we already have. Salford, South Shields, Forest Green etc all get s*** for the money they spend and I get very bitter about them from a Gateshead perspective but look at the communities they've built. Fantastic. City are starting the transition to Youth and facilities now they've caught up.

You need to encourage investment in football without letting sides run away with it, Americans and Rugby have it right, wage and transfer caps the only way forward. Like I've said FFP is the elites way of making it look like they are doing something whilst keeping everyone else under the thumb.

FFP rules aren't great, but that doesn't mean a club can just choose to lie to get round them. The football leaks stuff showed internal emails where it was like:
"we are gonna breach"
"don't worry we'll just say etihad are paying us more"
"can we do that?"
"yeah we can do anything"

They also commented on the death of a FFP panel member with something like 6 more to go. FFP isn't great, but a lying, sportswashing city aren't victims either

I'd rather have teams break the rules than let FFP restrict everyone, allowing the old guard to rule over everyone. The PL isn't an open shop but if City, Chelsea even Spurs weren't/aren't able to spend then Man U and Arsenal would still be winning everything. Hell, we spent to challenge, Blackburn are seen as a plucky underdog even though they spaffed millions to win the league. It's been the way for decades.

Football fans are weird, they'll laugh at City for this but the BBC posted an article complimenting Wolves on their season and eveyone was tripping over themselves to compliment them despite the fact they are probably more bent than City, another article asking why everyone hates RB Leipzig, German fans say they hate Bayern but it seems as though they think they've won their titles 'fairly' and they'd rather seen them win everything for another decade rather than let some fresh blood in.

It's just mad. Of course City aren't the victims but football fans are the biggest hypocrites on earth and FFP doesn't work and creates the opposite of what we should be aiming for.

That's all well and good, but football is still the only big pro sport on earth where all of the teams are losing money hand over fist. For all the talk about how revenues are booming, owners have foolishly let their own spending get out of control. So as much as FFP in its current incarnations can potentially serve to prop the biggest clubs up because their higher existing revenues, it really has been an unsustainable pattern of spending. That speaks to the broader problem with the policy, which is that it's positioned as a means of creating parity, when really it has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with disincentivizing overspending. If they really cared about parity, they'd enact salary caps, which would also have the knock-on effect of preventing financially overextending.

Salary caps would make perfect sense, but for the issue of football not really having a "they" to do it. We've just seen what happened when a common sense move to bring the transfer window closure to the start of the season stopped immediately because the rest of Europe didn't follow, any league that brings in a salary cap is going to lose top players fairly quickly. I could handle that as a levelling of the playing field but clubs couldn't.

What a joke - you can effectively spend your way out of spending regulations, no more FFP after this...
