Match day thread - Bournemouth v NUFC

Bournemouth (a)

The Magpies return to Premier League action tonight (Wednesday), visiting Bournemouth for a 6pm kick-off.

As with all other Premier League clubs, fans will not be admitted to the stadium.

The game is live on Sky Sports and also free to air via Sky One and the Pick TV channel on freeview/freesat.

That means that there's no need to use one of the free viewing codes supplied by NUFC for use via NOW TV.

No Newcastle side has lost at what was formerly Dean Court since 1989, their three subsequent top-flight visits resulting in two draws and one victory.

The Magpies go in search of back to back away clean sheets in the Premier League, something they haven't achieved since December 2013 (Manchester United 1-0 then Crystal Palace 3-0).

One has to go back to January 2018 to find the last time that United notched up successive PL victories on the road (West Ham 3-2 then Stoke City 1-0).

Steve Bruce is looking to extend his side's unbeaten PL sequence to five games, which would be our longest run in that competition since the black and whites concluded their 2015/16 relegation season by going six games without losing.

Team: It seems doubtful that Matt Ritchie will be deemed fit enough to face his former club after sitting out Sunday's FA Cup defeat by Manchester City.

Eligible to play but yet to feature since the season restarted are unfit trio Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clark and Christian Atsu.

Nabil Bentaleb is available for selection following his FA Cup suspension with neither Isaac Hayden or Allan Saint-Maximin anticipated to start.

AFCB: Callum Wilson is suspended and Josh King doubtful but Phil Billing is expected to be available for the Cherries.
Jordon Ibe and Ryan Fraser have been released.

Eddie Howe's side are winless in seven attempts and have lost all of their last three outings.

Referee: Kevin Friend - assuming he avoids lockdown in his native Leicestershire this will be his third game of the season involving Newcastle.

Red-carding Sean Longstaff in a 1-1 home draw with Wolves back in October, Friend took charge of the 1-4 loss at Manchester United on Boxing Day.

VAR: Paul Tierney

Coral price an away victory at 11/5, with a home win rated at 11/8 and the draw 2/1 - with a nowts apiece at 6/1.

Stats:

Victory at the Vitality Stadium would give United a third PL double of the season, following home and away wins against Southampton and Sheffield United.

Cherries v Magpies - all time:

2018/19 drew 2-2 PL Rondon, Ritchie
2017/18 drew 2-2 PL Gayle 2
2015/16 won 1-0 PL Perez
1991/92 drew 0-0 FAC
1989/90 lost 1-2 D2 Quinn
1966/67 won 4-1 FR Bennett 2, Davies, Robson.
1963/64 lost 1-2 LC McGarry pen

In normal circumstances we should win but Bruce has said the players are too tired and that he's planning heavy rotation. Therefore I'd say a draw would be a very good result.

I wouldn't be too against a narrow defeat if it aided the West Ham & Aston Villa relegation cause.

Bournemouth look woeful, can't buy a goal or a win, we rock up...home win <laugh>

This is why I've been wanting the likes of Watford and Bournemouth to lose when they've played the likes of Burnley. Some were saying they'd have preferred teams like Watford to win those games, but we could easily lost to Bournemouth and Watford away and find ourself getting dragged back into it a bit.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Bournemouth look devoid of confidence at the moment we should win, though I said the same about Villa (though we really should have won that game)
I'll Hazard a guess

Bournemouth to win 2-1. Joelinton to score for us. Would be happy with a draw though and a win would be a bonus / definitely secured safety (mathematically) ?

What line-up would people go for? Seeing Bruce's comments he's looking to do some rotation and for the sake of keeping things fresh as we have a winnable game at home against West Ham on Sunday I'll go for this :

Duba
Yedlin Schar Clark* Rose*
Shelvey Bentaleb
Joelinton*
Lazaro* Gayle Miggy

*Is Lejune out injured.. if not put him in instead
*Bruce says ASM is going to be rested.. so if he is swap him for Lazaro but if Ritchie's fit then put him instead but I want to see Lazaro get some more game as we've only seen glimpses of what he can do.
*I want to see how Joelinton does playing as a SS/AM/no.10 will suit him better being upfront with someone he can play off.

Stats show a tight draw but I reckon we can sneak a win

Tough game for me tonight. My Dad supports Bournemouth and they need the points to get out the bottom 3 but I really want us to smash them.

Why does he support Bournemouth? Aren't you Scottish? I'm confused.

Brucey playing the mind games. Saying it was impossible for ASM to play and then starting him. Will be intresting to see how we line up with those players. Unless he's changing formation to a 4-3-3, I'd guess it'll be:
Dubravka
Krafth Lascelles Fernandez Manquillo
Bentaleb Shelvey
StMaximin Longstaff Joelinton
Gayle
