I think we are all glad Wilson didn't get a call up so that he can stay fresh for us, but considering the amount of forwards in the squad, he'd be entitled at being a bit miffed at missing out. Should probably be there ahead of Abraham. The lack of midfield creativity is really shocking though. Not sure what Maddisson has to do to be included.

I think Maddison has made one start and one sub appearance since a long injury layoff so not surprising he’s not included, but I’m sure he we’ll be going forward. Form was also very ropey second half of last season but definitely gives England something they lack in midfield.

Based on this seasons form then Wilson should be ahead of Abraham for sure, so thank you Southgate for sticking with your favourites instead <diva>

Needs a new manager. Southgate is allergic to a creative midfield

Him and Bruce job swap? <laugh> Not sure if we'd notice a difference. Shelvey getting an England recall maybe haha

To be fair, if Abraham took Chelsea's penalties like Wilson does for us, he'd have more goals. I can understand Wilson having to show more after last year's mediocre season before he gets another chance.

Anyone watching tonight? I think this could actually be a decent match. Hopefully we see a bit more of a performance as we seem to have massively lapsed since the highs of 2018.

The highs of losing to Belgium (twice) and Croatia at the World Cup? Of beating Tunisia 2-1? Of needing penalties to get past Colombia?

There was a 2-0 win against Sweden and smashing Panama for 6 I guess <roll>

Tongue in cheek, but on paper a WC SF looks great but the football wasn’t and England lost when it mattered against the good sides.

It's a high for England! After years of utter dross under Hodgson, Capello, McClaren etc. it felt like the nation was behind the team again, the squad was looking better than it had for years and there was a feeling we might actually get somewhere. Now it just feels like we have slipped back into boring football, uninterested players and nobody cares again <laugh>.

Shouldn't you be on the Scotland thread with OT? <roll>

can't wait to see two defensive mids. If we're lucky, Southgate might pair that with 3 at the back and a right footed left wing back <doh>

Do we have a left back available for this game? Chilwell isn't playing this one after breaking lockdown rules.

I imagine Saka will play LWB in a three(five) at the back formation

The Independent have predicted the lineups as:

England: Pope, Gomez, Coady, Keane, Trippier, Rice, Winks, Saka, Grealish, Calvert-Lewin, Ings

Wales: Hennessey; N. Williams, Mepham, Ampadu, Davies; Smith, Morrell, Brooks, J. Williams, James; Moore

That reads to me like this maybe?

---------------------Pope-------------------
---------Gomez -- Coady -- Keane------
Trippier-------------------------------Saka
----------------Rice-----Winks-------------
------------------Grealish-------------------
----------------Ings-----DCL---------------

Grealish is the only actual captain in that team I think, not that it means anything!
