Not sure what the point of loaning out Lejeune, seemingly to build match fitness, then loaning in someone else who hasn't played competitively for about eighty years. Suppose it's an easy link to Man U defenders with cabbageface in charge.

You are forgetting Lejeune possesses Bruce's kryptonite, a decent level of technical ability.

So we were linked with Jones, then Williams, and our third Man U defender link is Rojo!
Wouldn't mind Rojo. Experienced, over 60+ caps for Argentina and versatile. Can play in a back four or back five. Left-sided CB or LB/LWB. Him or Willems on loan would be decent but would still prefer Jetro. <awe>

Experienced but a complete liability.

Yeah the hitrate of failed/past it Man Utd defenders isn't exactly great, off the top of my head I can only really think of Phil Neville at Everton and I guess Michael Keane who've been regarded fairly highly after the move? Defense (particularly CB) is an area where you can't afford mistakes, so if you're not good enough for a squad place in a top PL club you're unlikely to be good enough for a lower club either.

Jonny Evans is probably more highly regarded now than he was at Man United.

Good shout. I knew I'd forgotten someone obvious. There'll be others, but I still don't think there's many. Eventually Jones will move on and will either sink in the PL or be sensible and take a step down.

Yeah Evans for sure, more recently you could also say Chris Smalling has at least rebuilt his career and earned plaudits for his performances at Roma. Slim pickings though.

Yeah another good shout. Think he's a strange case though, banished from Man United when he was always better than Jones and Rojo who are still there and banished from England even when he's been playing really well in Italy.

Unless it’s a Lukaku shaped reject.

Yeah. Some players just don't suit certain teams.. Rojo could be useful as competition/cover for CB and LB unless we getting Jetro.. we need a LB to challenge & compete with Lewis as he's still raw and learning on the job.

Would anyone look at Zinchenko from City as cover/challenge at left back? Ostensibly a winger/cam I think, but played a lot of his senior football at City as a LB/LWB. Out of favour and may well be available on loan in January

Tricky one as we don’t really know how good he is at actually defending given that City generally dominate play and possession. Being a LB or LWB for a team like us is about as far away from doing it for a team like city as you can get.

Valid point that I didn't consider. I think Willems would be most people's first choice if we can get him. Easily the best LB we've had since Enrique left. Concerns about his fitness/injury though.

Willems is our best LB in a 5. Him or Lewis leave us desperately vulnerable in a 4 though. If we get another LB they need to best in a 4, otherwise we’re not fixing the vulnerability.
