Re: wilson out 6 wks
Yeah heard this rumoured, huge blow.
We knew that we were playing a dangerous game in banking on Wilson and ASM staying fit, and after 3 games we've been burned by that and have zero PL quality striking back-up.
I'd give Gayle a run of games given that he's actually a striker! We are making more chances this season and getting balls into the box, play Gayle. Leeds defence looks as bad as ours.

Re: wilson out 6 wks
The problem is that we don't have much of an option. ASM and Joelinton aren't strikers, we let Carroll and Muto leave, so that leaves literally Gayle and nothing else. We might have to just give him a run of games and hope for the best.
As for Almiron I'm still not entirely sure what he is. At least in that midfield role he can do the defensive coverage with his pace, because I'm not convinced he's productive enough to play off the striker. He's basically a faster less productive Perez, who we could frankly do with at the moment.
I dread to think what the team will be against Leeds, though fortunately I'm at a wedding so can skip the whole thing...

Plenty of pre-season action for Gayle....zero PL minutes in 4 games this season. Typical Bruce.
Leeds, Watford and Wolves next - if we don't give him game time in those three (you wouldn't rule out him getting a goal) then what on earth was the point in him getting a new 3 year deal...other than forward planning for the Championship.

Re: wilson out 6 wks
Hasn't it come out that Bruce didn't want he and some of the others to get contract extensions? So I'm not necessarily surprised there's a discrepency between his contract status and playing time. But it absolutely highlights how disfunctional the management of the club is - and how without meaningful vision for squad, playing style, youth development, etc. we'll get nowhere.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 8:57 amPlenty of pre-season action for Gayle....zero PL minutes in 4 games this season. Re: wilson out 6 wks
Just a basic ability to count would be nice. If we have 4 strikers, release 2, and want to release a third that leaves us with 1. Which is madness.
Re: wilson out 6 wks
Yes one of the biggest steps backwards we've made post-Rafa is it seems Lee Charnley and/or Steve Nickson are basically making all the squad structuring decisions. We desperately need a specialist director of football, someone who knows what they're doing with some experience.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:20 pmHasn't it come out that Bruce didn't want he and some of the others to get contract extensions? The way Ashley is running this club, why would he even consider putting someone who actually knows what they are doing in charge?!
Get over it, it won't happen. All we can do is try and care as little as we can and hope someone comes and rescue us eventually

Yea but in the hierarchy of things more likely to happen, appointing a DoF is far more likely than getting a new owner.
Of course we know that neither will happen. Maybe another new coach at best to put Bruce’s nose further out of joint.
Perhaps with these statements putting Bruce in his place they’re trying to make him resign.

Re: wilson out 6 wks
Well to answer your question, he wants to maintain or improve the value of the club while spending as little money as possible. The most cost effective way to achieve that is to hire more effective front office and coaching staff - which are a lot more affordable than buying a new squad. Is he capable of identifying that kind of talent? Or having underlings that can do it? Clearly not - especially after developing such an infamous reputation for how difficult he is to work for.Oval85 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 6:39 pmWe need a new owner! As good as that sounds, I cannot even see us getting a better manager at this point.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 7:18 pmYea but in the hierarchy of things more likely to happen, appointing a DoF is far more likely than getting a new owner.

Who with their head properly attached would even consider such a job?! Most likely another puppet for the master.
They've all seen how constrained this job is, and it looks like its getting more and more each season.

Re: wilson out 6 wks
That's our main striker out then for a good while.. looking more bleak then ever now.. relegation pending this season ?
Anyway on the positive side.. hopefully this means we'll freshen thigs up & switch formations/tactics.
A 4-2-3-1 is what we need imo.. attack & defence nicely balanced. Players actually playing in there ''real'' position.
Woodman/Darlow
Manquillo Lascelles Fernandez Lewis
Hayden Willock
Murphy Miggy ASM
Gayle
Willock & Miggy interchanging positions from time to time, genuine pace & width out wide with Murphy & ASM. I'll like to see what Murphy can do further forward.. no real physical presence up top but Gayle in & around the box can be a threat & nick a goal (if he's on his A game). Options from the bench include Fraser, Ritchie, Joelinton & Longstaff. Can we still resign someone.. like Carroll again on a pay as you play deal at least until Jan? Surely we can't do any worse?
If we do play play five at the back.. I'll like to see this for a change
Woodman/Darlow
Fernandez Lascelles Schar
Manquillo Willock Hayden Miggy Lewis
Murphy - ASM

I do think Manquillo and Murphy will give make us more solid down the right, and Murphy has shown he has quality in the final third to get balls into the box (and chip in himself).

The Scotland manager played Fraser as a forward the other week and they lumped high balls at him all game.
