Roker beach is nice. Boro is a place with no redeeming qualities.
I lived in Boro for three years and it's not that bad.
Well Blyth, so you know, low expectations and all that

I live just north of the Tees and Boro is fine, it's only a little town but it's got some nice little pubs these days. So has Stockton weirdly, come off the high street and it's all micropubs and great little gig venues.
I used to drink in Stockton in 2007/2008 when I worked there for a little while. There were some really s**** bars back then, namely Zanzibar and Horners. Doubt either of them are still going.

I finished uni in 2004 (in Newcastle) then moved back home, most of our Saturday nights for the next decade were spent in the Empire. Used to be about £6 for their indie night and there'd always be a band on. It was always announced beforehand but the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Mystery Jets, Razorlight etc all played it on the way up. Then weirdly on one of the later ones (just before I got old and tired) without knowing beforehand Har Mar Superstar walked on stage at about midnight for a set. Amazing.

Zanzibar was always rubbish (think it's shut now), but no different to naff clubs everywhere like Blu Bambu or similar. Even then though you had Ku Bar open late, and that's still going strong, and the Georgian Theatre is genuinely one of my favourite venues. It was always good, but they had a load of lottery funding a few years back and now it's lovely, and all the pubs near it are great.

Over the years I've had loads of ppl ask me "where should I go out in Newcastle?". But I left at 18 for uni, so I only really know nice pubs to catch up with my dad or mates. Ask me about Durham, Geneva or Liverpool and I'd know.

I think you can have fun in a crap nightclub/going out bar with the right people. But bad pubs are yuk...

Even only living there the one year I did for grad school, nice pubs were definitely my preference then, even though I saw the inside of the worst clubs too. Thankfully when I was back a few years ago all of those pubs still were going strong and as good as ever (e.g. Free Trade Inn is still on my list of favourite places to drink in the world).

Stone Berlin was one of my favourite places to drink but not sure it’s open now.

Beeaten 2-1 at home by MK Dons today and out of the play-off places.

Worst gaff I've had a drink in my life was the North Eastern Hotel in Stockton.. Darts stopped in mid flight when we walked in the door.
