Match thread - Arsenal v NUFC

Post by Toondes » Sat Feb 15, 2020 8:03 am

Arsenal (a)

Following their "mid season" break, Newcastle return to Premier League action on Sunday against the Gunners.

It's a 4.30pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium, live on Sky Sports. All away section tickets are sold.

Steve Bruce's side will be attempting to extend their eight match unbeaten league and cup run (four in the Premier League) since New Years Day.

However they'll have their work cut out, Newcastle beaten on each of their last seven visits here - only Manchester City's Etihad Stadium exceeds that in Premier League terms (ten straight PL losses there).

NUFC: Ineligible to face Oxford United in the FA Cup, Danny Rose and Valentino Lazaro should feature.

Bruce's earlier optimism that Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle could be available for this game proved to be misplaced, with neither player sighted in training.

However, Joelinton and Yoshinori Muto are available.

Paul Dummett and Jonjo Shelvey remain out - with Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo also expected to be missing.

AFC win 4/9

AFC: January loan acquisition Pablo Mari is expected to make his debut in the defence, joining in with his team mates as they visited Dubai for a training camp.

Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares and Kieran Tierney remain unavailable, but Sead Kolasinac and Reiss Nelson could return.

The Gunners are unbeaten in seven league and cup games but have drawn each of their last four Premier League outings and have taken maximum PL points just once in their last nine attempts.

Transport:

Metro: There's no service between Pelaw and South Hylton all day on Sunday.

Tube: Although not directly affecting stations in the vicinity of the Emirates, various parts of the Bakerloo, Circle, District and Piccadilly lines are closed for planned maintenance all weekend.

Train: Engineering work on the approaches to Kings Cross station means that an amended LNER timetable will be in operation on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone whose journey involves catching a train to or from Waterloo or Victoria stations should check services, with disruption due to planned engineering works across the weekend.

And there is a reduced Thameslink service between Bedford, Luton and Gatwick Airport all weekend. The Gatwick Express is also off all day Sunday.

Referee: Lee Mason - third sighting of the season, following the 0-2 loss at Aston Villa and 1-2 home defeat by Everton.

VAR: Kevin Friend

Long overdue a victory at Arsenal or even a draw.

1-0 Toon (ASM 5 minutes from time)

Considering we've lost our last 7 matches away to Arsenal, I'd love a shitty draw.

I'd take a shitty draw too but it's likely to be a shitty loss.

This has got another dreadful 0-0 written all over it. I think Arsenal have only won two games since October. Knowing us though, means we'll roll over and let them have a season defining thumping.

Hate playing arsenal. Doesn't matter how well we're playing or how badly they're playing, they always manage to pull out a result

Looking sharp in attack here. Clearly focusing down our right hand side with Saka at left back. Lozaro has looked impressive in the short time so far. Joelinton had a couple bright moments as well early on.
